Humble Beginnings
Thomas Adamsen and Annemette Markvad started Pilgrim in the early 1980s in a small basement flat in Skanderborg, Denmark. Adamsen and Markvad began selling their unique jewelry at street fairs and rock festivals. In the beginning, their jewelry line was either handmade or acquired from one of their many adventures overseas. Now, their jewelry and accessories are distributed worldwide and their company has more than 400 employees.

Pilgrim’s jewelry line runs the gamut from retro heirloom to garish and kitsch. Pilgrim has hired several famous women to model their jewelry in their ad campaigns. Former Pilgrim models include American actress Liv Tyler, French actress Emmanuelle Béart, and Danish supermodel Helena Christensen.

Handmade with Quality Materials
Pilgrim’s jewelry and accessories typically contain Swarovski crystals; semi-precious stones; natural and freshwater pearls; and glass. The jewelry is designed at the Pilgrim headquarters in Denmark and individually handmade in China.

Pilgrim guarantees that their jewelry is 100% nickel free. This is a relief for women who may suffer from nickel allergies. The base metal of the jewelry is usually tin or zinc and then alloyed with copper. The base material is covered with real silver or 22 carat gold. Then, their jewelry is treated with a gloss, dull, or antique patina.

Jewelry for a Cause
Since 2003, Pilgrim has worked with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Boarders). Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in more than 70 countries. Pilgrim designs jewelry with an MSF theme that is subsequently sold in Pilgrim stores and all over the world. All profit from their MSF line goes to MSF.
